There are so many easy ways to eat healthier and cruelty-free without forfeiting great taste or ease in preparation.
Here are just a few of my favorites:
instead of cow’s milk try almond milk, hazelnut milk (chocolate hazelnut milk is amazing), hemp milk, soy milk, rice milk. oat milk and my personal favorite 7 grain milk. My favorite brand for most of these is Pacific. Any one of these milks is perfect for drinking plain, and using in recipes. Many of these are now available in supermarkets across the country. So much better than drinking pus, antibiotics, hormones, and who knows what else.
instead of eggs when baking try fleggs. Fleggs are made in seconds by mixing ground flax seed with water. For every egg in a recipe, replace it with 1 T flax and 3 T water. It’s best if you let the flax and water sit for about 5 minutes before using. Is perfect for cakes, muffins, cookies – try it out with some of your recipes and you will see how easy it is!
instead of cheese try Daiya. Daiya is made from pea protein and in my opinion is the best vegan cheese out there. It tastes great and melts just like real cheese. We love it on pizza, in paninis, for tofu parmesan, quesadillas, really just about anything. Comes in shredded mozzarella, cheddar and other varieties. We just started ordering pizza from our favorite restaurant and bringing them a bag of Daiya to put on our pie!! Can’t beat that for ease!!
instead of beef try seitan. This is made from vital wheat gluten and can be used just as beef in any recipe. You can buy it at health food stores, or make your own. Click here for my basic seitan recipe.
instead of chicken try tempeh. Tempeh is made from fermented soy and can be used in most recipes that call for chicken. People say it is best if you steam it first for about 20 minutes to remove any bitter taste, but I never steam it and find it delicious.
